The Springport Band Program is a collection of ensembles made up of Springport Public School Students grades 6-12.
The 6th Grade Beginning Band: This is our first year ensemble and is where business of building the next generation of musicians begins. Music literacy and basic instrumental techniques are the main focuses of this course.
The 7th Grade Symphonic Band: This ensemble continues the work started in sixth grade with more complex literature and an emphasis on ensemble playing as well as individual technique
The 8th Grade Wind Ensemble: This group is the crown jewel of our middle school program. Focusing on ensemble technique, intonation, and artistic expression, students in this group are trained for the high level of musicianship that will be expected of them in later grades.
The Springport Spartan Marching Band: The Energy and Steam of Spartan Stadium shows audiences what Friday nights are all about: "Screamin' Fans, and Marchin' Bands!". The group performs at all Varsity Home Football Games, various community events, engage in marching band competitions around the state of Michigan and are the musical ambassadors of Springport Public Schools.
The Blue Crew: This group is a continuation of our Athletic Band program and are comprised of the Spartan Marching Band. The band performs as a pep band for various winter sports events but primarily at Men's and Women's Basketball Games.
The Channel 4 News Team: Springport's Premiere Jazz Ensemble "With the News and Views that you can use for Jazz and Blues".
Weapons of Brass Destruction: This brass quintet is comprised of our very finest brass players and focuses on serious and pop literature for brass quintet.
The Springport High School Wind Symphony: The Wind Symphony is the highlight of our musical program at Springport High School. This ensemble focuses on artistic expression through high level art music written for the wind band medium. The group performs five concerts per school year and exemplifies the highest levels of musicianship.
The Masterworks Ensemble: For the past two years, The Springport High School Wind Symphony has participated in The Masterworks Ensemble - a consortium of High School bands from rural Michigan dedicated to artistry through cooperation instead of competition. This season, Springport will join forces with the Camden-Frontier Chamber Winds, and the Climax-Scotts band to form this group. Students meet together one day in early March to rehearse together as a full ensemble and receive clinics from noted professional musicians. Following Rehearsal and Clinic Day, the Masterworks Ensemble begins a tour of all of the institutions involved.
